In order to strengthen the academic profiles of the graduates of the degree programs in Telematic Engineering, and Information Technology Engineering, the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí (UPSLP) joined the Amazon Web Service (AWS) Academy program, whose objective is to strengthen institutions of higher education by helping their students prepare for recognized certifications and careers in the cloud.

AWS Academy will enable UPSLP students to access high-demand job opportunities related to cloud computing. Likewise, the program includes training teachers to certify them in the use of AWS and provide professional development to them related to market solutions and innovations, which will benefit the student community by allowing them to access high quality training and to develop the necessary skills to perform efficiently in this field.

In addition, the platform is offered free of charge for computing practices in the cloud. Also, the academy has a state-of-the-art LMS (Learning Management System) based on Canvas, which allows teachers to share their course materials as well as to evaluate students online. It should be noted that AWS Academy is used in universities in more than 30 countries in the world, such as Harvard, Florida, Birmingham, Sao Paulo, among others.

The program works in stages, the first of which is AWS training and certification aimed at teachers, who through the LMS will offer these courses directly to UPSLP students.

The program started in the Spring 2022 semester and was offered to students studying Telematic Engineering as part of the course entitled, “Integrative and Comprehensive Project II”, taught by Liliana Gámez Zavala. The course covers the curriculum from the AWS Academy Introduction to Cloud course, which offers a more detailed analysis of cloud computing and the AWS cloud computing service provider through which students will explore AWS services and technologies, and how they are used to support companies around the world.

Undoubtedly, this initiative of the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí will benefit students´ integration into the labor market and globalized, digital world by helping them develop important skills and competences.

The Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí congratulates the Departments of Telematic Engineering and Information Technology Engineering on this important achievement that will benefit the university community!
