The Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí (UPSLP) establishes, in its educational model, a teaching-learning process based on the development of competences. Therefore, through its MOS and PearsonVue Certification Centers, students have access to certifications in various Information Technology (IT) tools:

● Basic Level: Microsoft Office Word, Power Point, Excel Core, Excel Expert and Access.
● Specializations: CISCO, Java, Sun and Solaris, CompTIA, Unity Certified User and IT Specialist.

One of the most successful certification programs at UPSLP is the Certifications in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), which, to date, over 64,000 certifications have been earned by students. These certificates have international validity and give proof of knowledge, skills and productivity in the management of the corresponding IT tools.

Within this program, students from all academic departments of the UPSLP have the opportunity to participate in the “Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship” organized by Certiport, which consists of an international competition that takes place in two stages, the regional and the national. The UPSLP organized the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) 2022 Internal Championship in the month of April, selecting the participants from the students who obtained the best results in their certification exam presented in the Fall 2021 semester. The final was on Friday, May 23rd.

The first and second place winners will represent the UPSLP in the 2022 MOS National Championship, which will be held online on June 15th. If they are winners of the national contest, they will represent Mexico in the “Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship”, scheduled from July 24th to 27th in Anaheim, California.

The winners of the MOS Internal Championship 2022 were:

● Excel Core 365 Category: First place, Uriel Alejandro Bravo Hernández; and second place, Elihu Soto Montenegro, both from the Department of Engineering in Industrial Systems and Technologies (ISTI).
● PowerPoint Core 365 Category: First place, Uriel Montejano Briano, from the Information Technology Engineering (ITI) Department; and second place, Karina Del Rocío Salazar Martínez, from the Department of International Marketing (LMI).
● Word Core 365 Category: First place, Brian Issai Rivera Carreón; and second place, Diego Adolfo Guerrero González, both from the Department of Engineering in Information Technologies (ITI).

In addition to the success of the certifications in Microsoft Office Specialist, and within the program of specialized certifications, the UPSLP offers the certification in VR Developer (Virtual Reality Developer) through the Unity 3D platform in collaboration with the companies Educational Technology Consulting (ETC), and the provider of certification exams, Certiport. It is important to point out that the UPSLP initiated the certification at the curricular level in Latin America.

The Virtual Reality Developer certification exam assesses knowledge in C# programming, configuring project settings according to the requirements of the Virtual Reality platform, applying appropriate locomotion techniques, understanding the use of spatial sound and how to implement it, and identifying the effect of lighting and shadows on runtime to optimize the application.

During this school year, 26 students of the Engineering in Information Technology Department have been certified. The students were advised by Víctor Manuel Fernández Mireles, a full-time faculty member, who has promoted the use of these new extended reality technologies, with the support of the rest of the department.

Also, since November of last year, the UPSLP, in partnership with the company Educational Technology Consulting (ETC), implemented the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) certification program, led by Liliana Gámez Zavala, leader of the Cisco Academy, Comptia and Specialized Certifications of Certiport, in collaboration with María Teresa Reyes Harfush, head of the Certiport Certifying Center at the UPSLP and Dr. Francisco Cruz Ordaz Salazar, Academic Coordinator of the Departments of Informational Technology Engineering and Telematic Engineering. This program covers certifications in: Databases, HTML and CSS, Java, JavaScript, Networking, Network Security and Software Development. This program strengthens these academic majors, impacting the professional training of students through the acquisition of the skills and competencies necessary for an excellent performance in the professional field. To date, students and teachers have been certified.

The Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí reaffirms its commitment to provide its students with tools to develop competencies and skills that will impact their professional development!
