The Activities of the 24th Summer of Science of the Central Region Begin at the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí

The Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí (UPSLP), through the Science Department, began on Monday, June 13th, the 24th Annual Summer of Science of the Central Region, in which the students who participate will engage in a research practicum, from June 13th to July 15th. Likewise, students from the Summer Program of Scientific and Technological Research of the Pacific, in its XXVII Edition, known as the Dolphin Program, will attend.

On this occasion, the activities will be carried out virtually, face-to-face and hybrid.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Francisco Javier Delgado Rojas, Rector of the UPSLP; Dr. Francisco Rafael Rostro Contreras, Academic Vice-Rector; Igor León O’Farrill, Director of Administration and Finance; and Dr. Carlos Adrián Arriaga Santos, Coordinator of the Academy of Sciences. In his message, Francisco Javier Delgado Rojas congratulated the students on their participation in these programs that bring them closer to the activity of scientific research, which is indispensable for the country and that contributes to their professional training.

The Summer of Science aims to promote interaction between young undergraduate students in the region with a passion for science, technology and innovation, and researchers active in higher education institutions and participating scientific institutes. In addition, it promotes the involvement and interest of students in scientific research with the subsequent result being their continuing to a postgraduate degree. The most important feature of this program is the meeting, for five weeks, of youth with a passion for science and an active career researcher during which students have the opportunity to participate in research projects in the different areas of knowledge.

On behalf of the UPSLP, the professors-researchers who will be participating with different research projects are: Martha Alicia Alonso Castañón, Xóchitl Hernández Velázquez, Dra. Gloria Cristina Palos Cerda, Dr. Juan Carlos Neri Guzmán, Dra. Luisa Reneé Dueñas Salmán, Dra. Mónica Marcela Zaldívar Muñoz, Guadalupe del Socorro Palmer de los Santos and Juan Carlos Portales Rodríguez. Thirteen students studying the Departments of Engineering in Industrial Systems and Technologies (ISTI), Engineering in Manufacturing Technologies (ITMA), Business Management (LAG) and International Marketing (LMI) will participate. Eight students will carry out their stay at the UPSLP and five students will carry it out in the following institutions: Arkansas State University Campus Querétaro, Autonomous University of Querétaro, Autonomous University of Coahuila – Department of Fiscal and Financial Management, Autonomous University of Aguascalientes – Center for Economic and Administrative Services, and the Higher Technological Institute of Monclova – TECNM, Campus Monclova.

In addition, the UPSLP will be receiving students from the following institutions: Autonomous University of Aguascalientes – Center for Economic and Administrative Sciences, Higher Technological Institute of Southern Guanajuato and National School of Higher Studies UNAM, León Unit; and, on behalf of the Dolphin Program. Three students from the Autonomous University of Guerrero and the Technological Institute of Tepic will also participate.
