Two eighth semester students from the Department of Engineering in Systems and Industrial Technologies (ISTI), of the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí (UPSLP), Jacqueline García Vaca, David Omar López Hernández and Heriberto Mora Castillo were awarded the first national place in the Undergraduate Student Technical Paper Competition, sponsored by the Institute for Industrial & Systems Engineers, IISE, with the essay entitled “Design of Experiments Applied to the Continuous Improvement in Production and Quality”. Likewise, Jaime Omar Delgadillo del Ángel and Josué Abraham Sánchez Portillo won third place with the essay “The Importance of Work Area Design in order to have Good Ergonomics and Production”.
The contest was held on March 22nd as part of the Industrial Congress of Customs and Maritime Trends (CITAMAR) 2023, organized by the Tecnológico de Ciudad de Madero, Tamaulipas. It was developed in two stages, the evaluation of the written document and, subsequently, an exhibition, both in English. It is important to note that students are part of the University-Business Cooperative Dual Program, or “COOP Group”, of the ISTI Educational Program.
The first place winners will now compete for the international award, representing the Mexico region at the IISE Annual Conference and Expo, which will be held in the city of New Orleans, USA, the first days of May. It should be noted that, in 2022, the student Valeria Pérez obtained the 2nd international place in this category held in the city of Seattle and, in the theme of Lean Manufacturing. UPSLP students have obtained the first place in 2021 and second places in 2015 and 2016.
A special recognition is made to Rogelio Portillo Rosales, professor of the ISTI Educational Program who has done an excellent job in advising and accompanying students since the program began its participation in these contests. Mr. Portillo has achieved excellent results both nationally and internationally on multiple occasions.
