On November 17th and 18th, the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí (UPSLP) hosted the 2023 Annual Meeting of Boards of Directors for Student Chapters belonging to Region 13 of Mexico of the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE), which was organized by the following chapters: #979 of the Technological Institute of San Luis Potosí, #718 of the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de San Luis Potosí and #736 of the Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí.
The main objective of this meeting was the delivery of Gold Award 2023 recognitions to the Student Chapters that developed outstanding activities from May 2022 to April 2023 for the benefit of the student communities in their institutions and for the promotion and development of industrial engineering among students related to this particular area.
Within the framework of this national meeting, an agenda was prepared with academic and holistic development activities, both for students and for the teaching and management staff, who attended the event. There were a total of 267 participants from 25 institutions of higher education from different states, such as Aguascalientes, Coahuila, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Puebla, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatan, and of course, San Luis Potosí.
To welcome the participants, academic authorities from various institutions gave an opening message, where the young people were invited to take advantage of everything that had been prepared for the event and to conduct themselves healthily and openly with their classmates from different parts of the country.
The welcome ceremony was attended by Dr. José Guadalupe Cervantes León, Vice President Region 13 Mexico of the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE); Dr. Mario Alberto Martínez Rojas, Rector of the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí; Dr. Esperanza Aguillón Robles, Rector of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí; Dr. Martha Angélica de la Rosa Hernández, Academic Vice-Rector of the Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí; MC. Octavio Villalobos Fernández, Deputy Director of Planning and Liaison of the Technological Institute of San Luis Potosí on behalf of its Director M.C. José Diego Bárcenas Torres.
During the first day of the conference, the keynote “Key Factors for Sustainable Entrepreneurship” was given by Dr. Karla Ximena Vargas, Research Professor at the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí and Director of the Alinsa Company, in order to promote the knowledge and awareness of young people towards the development of sustainable businesses that have a positive impact on the future social, economic, and ecological aspects of their community.
Participants attended specialized workshops related to SAP, Minitab, Kanban, and Methods Engineering, taught by professors from the Industrial Systems and Technology Engineering Educational Program, as well as technological and cultural tours, guided by students and teachers from the three organizing institutions. Likewise, working meetings were held with the faculty advisors, where their participation was very important to learn about the current situation of Region 13 of Mexico and the presentation of best practices for the administration of the chapters and the achievement of positive results.
On the second day of the event, the boards of directors of the three organizing chapters were sworn in, confirming the integration and collaboration between institutions. Subsequently, Gold Award 2023 awards were presented to the student chapters, which attended this meeting: 616, Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla SJCh, 639 Instituto Tecnológico de Pachuca TecNM, 653 Universidad Veracruzana – Poza Rica – Tuxpan, 661 Universidad Veracruzana – Boca del Río, 662 Unidad Interdisciplinaria de Ingenierias (IPN Gto.), 678 Instituto Tecnológico de Reynosa TecNM, 723 Instituto Tecnológico de Aguascalientes TecNM, 736 Universidad Politécnica de San Luis Potosí, 763 Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Poza Rica TecNM, 783 Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida TecNM, 962 Instituto Tecnológico de Veracruz TecNM, 965 Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero TecNM, 979 Instituto Tecnológico de San Luis Potosí TecNM and 982 Instituto Tecnológico de la Laguna TecNM

It is important to mention that the teaching staff of the Technological University of San Luis Potosí participated.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. José Guadalupe Cervantes León, Vice President Mexico of IISE, Dr. Mario Alberto Martínez Rojas Polytechnic University of San Luis Potosí, M.C. José Diego Bárcenas Torres Director of the Technological Institute of San Luis Potosí, and Dr. Lya Adlih Oros Méndez. Academic Deputy Director of the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de San Luis Potosí on behalf of its Director Laura García Lumbreras. In addition, there was participation from Dr. Rafael Portillo Rosales, Director of Innovation and Teaching of the National Technological System of Mexico, who made the formal closing of the event.
